According to event organizers, AKB48 will participate in a Q&A session and an autograph signing. In addition, they will hold a short concert at the Jacob Javits Center on September 26th, followed by a free concert at Webster Hall on September 27th.

The announcement did not specify which members of AKB48 will be attending.

AKB who?

For those who are not familiar with AKB48, they are a huge pop group, currently consisting of 54 members in total, all female, most of them in their teens. The group was created in 2005 by Yasushi Akimoto, who held an audition for a new theater based idol girl group. Inititally the group had only 20 members, but slowly both the number of members and the groups popularity has grown. AKB48’s latest single Iiwake Maybe ranked #1 on the daily charts in Japan. It could become their first chart-topper when the weekly sales numbers are published. To find out more about AKB48, visit their official site or Wikipedia.
